There are many art teacher blogs out there. This is one is written by me, Amiria Gale. I am a New Zealand artist and teacher, with seven year’s teaching experience. I have a Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS); a Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) with First Class Honours; and a Post Graduate Diploma of Teaching. I have been the Art and Design Curriculum Co-ordinator at ACG Strathallan College (4 years) and ACG Parnell College (3 years) and am a CIE accredited Coursework assessor in Art & Design.

Currently on maternity leave (with a mischievous one-year-old daughter), I write this blog to keep my brain alive and to keep myself up-to-date with curriculum changes. It also gives me the opportunity to create a body of digitised resources to help my students when I return to teaching, while interacting and sharing ideas with students and teachers from around the world.
UPDATE: What started as a fun hobby in April 2011 has exploded into a thriving hive of activity, with traffic now at over 1000 visitors a day. The majority of these visitors are dedicated and conscientious students and teachers. Many wish to gain ideas from viewing outstanding student artwork; some want in-depth help with selecting and developing an art project idea; others simply want to touch base with someone who is familiar with the CIE Art and Design syllabus. Thank you to all those who show an interest in this site and to those who take the time to ‘like’ posts and share them among their own followers. I am indebted to you all.
Personal Assistance
Due to the large number of requests I get, I am unfortunately no longer able to give personal assistance via email, however I continue to answer questions in the comment sections of blog posts. These public question and answer forums benefit many readers (unlike email correspondence which often leaves me answering the same questions over and over again) and are an integral part of this site. Comments on my website are therefore always welcome, and I will continue to provide as detailed and useful responses as I can. Please note that while I receive your queries instantly, sometimes (due to toddler-induced time restraints) it takes me a few days before I am able to respond. Rest assured, however, that your queries are important to me and have not been forgotten.
In order to accommodate the many requests for personal assistance, I am in the process of initiating paid Progress Reports which will be available for CIE Art and Design (Painting and Related Media) students. Stay tuned!

The views expressed on this website are my own personal opinions, formed as a result of my own teaching experience; they are not official recommendations of CIE or any other educational body. It is important to note that the advice given should only be followed by students in conjunction with advice from their own teacher and only at the student’s own discretion. Advice issued over the internet can never replace the hands-on expertise of the teacher in your own classroom.
